Art Camp Is Next Month & You're Invited!

Have you ever admired the pictures on this blog and thought to yourself, “wow, that’s such a beautiful place! I wish I could go there”? Or maybe you were captivated by a particular painting and wondered, “how on Earth does she do that!?” Well, now here’s your chance to check it out!

I am super excited to announce that Art Camp 2023 is happening NEXT MONTH! September 11th through the 13th, I will be hosting the second annual Christian Ladies Art Retreat (which I affectionately refer to as “Art Camp”). The event will be held right here in the gorgeous wilderness of Northern Idaho. We will be spending three days and two nights in our own little enclave of cabins located at one of Idaho’s most beautiful state parks. There will be fellowship, feasting, worship songs around the campfire, quiet meditative walks in the woods… and of course, ART! And best of all, YOU ARE INVITED! The cost is only $250 per person and covers - food, lodging at the cabins, guided hikes, access to art equipment and materials, and one-on-one instruction.

Over the course of the three days, I will be leading lots of creative activities as well as a workshop on how to make your own vine charcoal from scratch! All of my art classes are grounded in a faith-based approach. Along with providing technical instruction on drawing and painting, I also will teach how to incorporate prayer and Biblical principals into the creative process. This year’s classes will include topics like:

  • How to fearlessly approach any new medium

  • The joy of charcoal gesture drawing & other good warm-up habits

  • Drawing and painting fundamentals for adult beginners

  • Techniques for sketching “in the field” & how to document subjects for later

  • Learning to listen to the Holy Spirit and allow Him to move in your work

  • Learning more about God’s character through the observation of His creation

Many of the ideas from these classes can be applied to other art forms and are not limited to the visual arts.

For anyone who has sweaty palms right now just reading the word “drawing,” fear not! I will also be sharing prayer strategies to completely demolish the strongholds of “creative anxiety” and “art trauma.”

“But, Angela,” you might be thinking to yourself, “I’m not an artist! I’ve never even picked up a paint brush!” That’s okay! All of the classes and workshops at Art Camp are open to ladies of ANY skill level and no experience is required. So, whether you have been painting for 30 years or this is your first time giving it a shot, these classes are for you. And for all my friends who just don’t feel like visual art is their jam, that’s a-okay too! All of the classes and activities at Art Camp are completely optional. Ladies are also encouraged to bring their own medium of choice. Perhaps you prefer journaling, making music, crocheting, chain-mailing jewelry, (or some other awesome creative thing I’ve never even heard of) Art Camp is for you too! All creative forms of expression are from God and are welcome at Art Camp. And if you don’t want to make anything that’s fine too! Maybe you just like the idea of three days of quiet in the woods to pray and  meditate on Scripture and just rest in the quiet… well, guess what… you’re invited too :). The word “art” is in the name, but make no mistake, the true goal of this retreat is to rest. This retreat is just that, a chance to retreat. It is a chance to disconnect from the stress and noise of life so that we can better connect with Our Father. Art is simply a tool that we will be utilizing to help us focus our hearts and minds on Him and the beauty of all that He has created. If that sounds good to you, send me a message at faithfullydrawn@yahoo.com I would love to have you there!
